Hand towel or face towel?
They look similar in a photo and behave quite differently in use.

Hand towels are the workhorses. They hang by the basin, get used by everyone who passes through, and need washing more often than anything else in the bathroom. Most households need more of these than they own.

Face towels and washcloths are smaller and more personal. Softness against skin matters more than size, and because they are small they can be washed hot and often without much thought.

Why the small sizes are the ones worth having good
A hand towel by the basin is the single most looked-at piece of fabric in a house. Guests see it, everyone in the household touches it several times a day, and unlike a bath towel it is never hidden away in a cupboard.
That makes it the best place in a home for a verse. It is not decoration you have to commit wall space to, it costs little, and it changes the feel of a room that usually has nothing in it at all.

Wash small towels often. A shared hand towel is damp most of the day, and frequent washing is what stops it going musty.

Dry fully before folding. Putting one away damp is how the smell starts.
Buying as a gift
A pair of hand towels is one of the better small gifts, because they are used daily and because people rarely buy enough for themselves. They suit a housewarming, a thank-you, or a set alongside something larger. Neutral grounds with a clear verse work better as gifts than a busy print.
